In 1995 he published "Economic Thought Before Adam Smith." Chapter 10 is entitled "Mercantilism and freedom in England from the Tudors to the Civil War." In the late sixteenth century a group of writers known as bullionists claimed that it was wrong to allow gold or silver to leave a country and that this problem arose because of unscrupulous foreign exchange dealers. Thomas Milles (c.1550-1627) was a buUionist. He condemned foreign exchange transactions as evil. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come." - 2 Corinthians 5:17 Monday night, Tracy and I brought in the NewYear with my big brother Michael and his family at the hospital. We watched a movie and ordered pizza; it was good to be with them even though it would have been better at home. He was admitted to ICU on Saturday due to another infection which caused his blood pressure to go way down. He spent one night in intensive care and was moved to another room on 6th floor the next day. It has been quite a journey, I pray the New Year will bring healing and wholeness for him and his family. I don't know what we would do without him; he is such a constant source of inspiration and an all around remarkable person. My hope is 2013 will bring our entire family peace, joy and ease. Last year proved to be one of the toughest of our lives as we watched Michael go in and out of the hospital in addition to losing our dearly loved father. I still miss papa every day but time is healing and now when I think of him and talk to him, I don't cry every time but often smile remembering all the things he taught us simply because he was a good man, both my brothers take after him in that respect. Mike was able to get out of the hospital on NewYear's Day and what a blessing that was. Once again I asked for mass prayers and friends came through with enormous support. We have come to believe in the power of prayer so much, it is what gets us through the difficult times. My husband and I were having a conversation recently about brother Mike as we pondered why he has gone through so much and just doesn't seem to catch a break. Tracy said, "Maybe it is as simple as your brother is teaching the rest of us how to keep our faith through diversity and maintain a positive attitude despite our tribulations." I can attest to that. In those moments when I was close to losing faith feeling as if my brother just can't go through another set back or I couldn't go another day bearing the grief of not having our father around, it was Mike who would strengthen my faith because he just refuses to give up. Someone told me one time, "I believe in Super Man, his name is Michael Jensen." I couldn't agree more. I wish I could give my family the world, I wish I could take all the pain and illness away, I wish I could turn back time and somehow stop the cancer from getting into his body but I can't, the only thing I know to do is pray and trust in God's plan and his power to heal Michael. We are all hoping this year will be a year of miracles. As the sign in my bathroom reads, "Keep looking up, that's where miracles come from." So, we will keep looking up. I was having a tough morning on New Year's Day, feeling a little down and not myself at all. In all honesty, I just wanted to.go back to bed until I heard the news my brother was getting out of the hospital and would be home to enjoy the first day of this New Year in the safety, security and comfort of home. I turned on my computer that day and our dear friend Tonya Jensen sent me an email with a poignant verse written across the top, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come." Below it was a note from Pastor Joel Osteen who is an inspirational speaker and author. ',s a believer in Jesus, you are a new creation. You have a new spirit and a new life," he wrote. "There may be 'old' things in your life that you are trying to get rid of. Maybe you have old habits or addictions that you want to change. Remember today that the new has come. It's a new year with new opportunities, and it's time for you to be the new you. Let this be the year you break old habits and addictions. Let this be the year you move forward into a new life of victory. Let this be the year you take hold of all the spiritual blessings, the Lord has promised - peace, health, protection and victory. Be encouraged today because no matter what is happening in your life right now, you have a chance for a new beginning. Choose to leave the old behind - leave behind old behaviors, old thinking, old words, and old mindsets and embrace the new by faith. Trust that He is leading you, and this year, declare His Word and embrace the blessings He has prepared for you." I needed to read those words so bad that day; I cried as I did. Life can sometimes be tiring and overwhelming, it can weigh you down with worry and fear, it can hold you back from the potential we are meant to have simply because we are all God's= children. While reading those positive words of encouragement and inspiration, it hit me, each new day we have the chance to renew our spirits and look forward with hope; it is up to us which path we take and with one simple act of kindness, we can turn someone's day around just as Tonya's message did for me. This year my New Year's resolution is to get healthier - physically, mentally and spiritually. To choose love over fear in all aspects of my life and to make a conscious effort to help others more so my soul can prosper and be nfirtured with grace. As Mother Theresa said, "Give of your hands to serve and your hearts to love." Sometimes along the way, it can seem like there is no end to the trials and tribulations but we must always look to each new day as a chance to renew our spirits and learn to focus on the blessings we do have instead of what we don't have. Today, I am grateful to have my big brother in my life after everything he has been through as well as all my family members and close friends. Together we are strong, together there is love, and together we can find the faith we need for THIS day. With God's help, we can become new creations amidst each new dawn. 's you reflect on the events over the last year, remember, the storms you have encountered have only made you stronger," J0el Osteen wrote. "You are wiser, you are more alive, and you are headed for victory. Your brightest days are right out in front of you. Always remember with God on your side, nothing can hold you back." My big brother Michael hasn't fought this hara to give up the battle now. I have no doubt in my mind Victory will be his. Maybe he has had to wear the cross for the past four years so the rest of us could learn to love deeper, hold on to faith through defeat, and keep looking up to the source of victory so miracles can enter our journeys with each and every new beginning.
