Leo Beauchanll) The sixth "The Brush Bunch at work" article will feature, no other, than me, Leo Beauchamp. I asked our president, Laurel Brusseau, to do an article about me but was instructed to "toot my own horn." This I do not like to do. But, here goes. My first meeting with the Brush Bunch was at the Brusseau farm home back in the 1980s' After a few years off, working, I rejoined in 1996 and enjoy the group very much. The painting I am putting the finishing touches on, in the photo, is the Mayo Brick and Tile Company which was located a few miles West of WalhaUa. Known to local folks as the "Brick Mine". A history written by Jim Benjaminson, updated and compiled by me accompanies the painting. A few months ago Jim brought me two photos, one of the Brick Mine and one of the Concrete Portland Cement Company located West of Concrete in section 25 of Olga Township and the company owned 560 acres located in Cavalier County. A complete history of both businesses is also on display at the Gorge Art Gallery in Walhalla. The photos that Jim brought to me were not top grade as you will see. If you do not visit the gallery the paintings will be on display at our Art Show coming up on the 4th and 5th of May 2013 at the American Legion in Walhalla. I enjoy painting buildings and have a collection of churches and of my home town of Olga, ND. I enjoy painting and our group is tops. Stop by and see "The Brush Bunch at work" any Tuesday. Bezalel's grandparents are Dr. Gregory LeRoy Culver of Kodiak, AK, Jacci Culver of Minot, ND, and Pastor Leroy and Bev Aufenkamp of Drayton, ND. He was 8 Ibs, 12 oz and 22 inches long at birth. Bezalel's name is taken from Exodus 31:1-5. He was chosen to construct all the articles for Israel's tabernacle, because God's Spirit had given him wisdom "in all manner of workmanship". The name Bezalel means "in the shadow of God". Tales and Trales Continued From Page 2 At the end of the interview, the two pilots were telling with excitement how they fly aircraft regularly today. To me, it was like an old- fashioned "hanger party" when captivating stories are exchanged. I expressed that I was feeling "gooseflesh" from their spirited tales of adventure from the past and carrying the feeling forward to the moment. They chimed in, "anyone that rides with us gets goose bumps too." I left with a medley of heartfelt stories that needed to be shared beyond the confines of a building bulging with eager listeners and an honoring public. And the party went on into the evening. Thinking back on the weekend, while preparing to return to North Dakota this week, I pondered how some of the elements that I observed could be applied in Drayton. Clearly, it was the personal stories that made the evening as powerful as it was, with good food and toe-tapping music as accents. And it was the purpose - supporting the Wounded Warrior project - that drew a crowd and opened pocketbooks beyond expectations. Although Drayton cannot match the scale of this CA event, the city has the rich history and the stories of patriots and pioneers that can be equally compelling, if craftedinshort documentary- type films. Periodic weekend events in Memorial Hall and Hastings Landing featuring filmed stories of its citizens can draw reasonable crowds too. Santa Ynes cannot match Drayton's unique location on the Red River or 1-29 and the unique placed-based stories from the history on this landscape that are unmatched elsewhere.
