Valley News and Views Welcome back to the Laiken and Taylor Column! Summer is going by extremely fast. It won't be long until we're packing up our backpacks and buying pencils for school. In school news, Mr. Klein, Mr. Gardner, and Mr. Gebur all retired this year. All three of them served the Drayton School for many school years. Since they deserve this recognition, we decided to interview them about their time at Drayton High School. How many years have you taught at DHS? Mr. Klein: 42 years. Mr. Gardner: 46 years. Mr. Gebur: 45 years. Have you taught at any other schools? For how long? Mr. Klein: Central Valley for 4 years and Mayville for 2 years. Mr. Gardner: Kenmare high school, for 1 year. Mr. Gebur: No, I have not taught anywhere else. Why did you become a teacher? Mr. Klein: I guess it sounded interesting, a new opportunity for me. Mr. Gardner: Because I had good teachers in high school, I wanted to do something in my life helpful to others, like them. Mr. Gebur: Because I like kids and math. What are you going to do now that you're retired? Mr. Klein: Drive bus, do whatever comes along. Mr. Gardner: Write more books, read more, do more research. Mr. Gebur: Undecided, not much for a while. What was your most memorable time at DHS? Mr. Klein: I'm not sure, my last day? Mr. Gardner: Can't pick just one! Mr. Gebur: Probably watching Mr. Stegman bank in a free throw to take our high school basketball team to state. What was your favorite DHS sports team? (Bombers, Blue Knights, Eagles, Titans) Mr. Klein: Bombers, because it was the only all Drayton team. Mr. Gardner: Bombers. I .e n School and Recteatto Mr. Gebur: Bombers, because we were the Bombers for so many years. What will you miss most about DHS? Mr. Klein: The kids (Like Taylor Stegman and Laiken Larson maybe?). Mr. Gardner: I won't have to miss anything; I'm coming back as a substitute. Mr. Gebur: The students and teachers. What will you miss least? Mr. Klein: Nothing, I enjoyed it all! Mr. Gardner: Nothing really, I enjoyed most of nay teaching career. Mr. Gebur: All of the meetings that are required and take time away from being with students. Thank you to Mr. Gebur, Mr. Klein, and Mr. Gardner for answering these questions and for teaching at Drayton for so many years! Students and teachers alike will miss you.
