Valley News & Views Page 5 June 23rd, 2011 The Pastor's Column With the economy in the shape it is people are struggling just to make ends meet. Many have lost jobs, seen benefits cut back, and are losing their homes. Those with jobs find it increasingly difficult to keep up with expenses, especially in light of higher food and fuel costs. Let me offer a suggestion which will help ou cut costs and allow you to stretch your dollars: Turn your heart and life completely and unreservedly over to Jesus. Then begin to allow His Word to guide you and give you wisdom about how to spend and save. He will help you re- prioritize your spending and purchases. Once you have received Christ as Saviour and given your life to His control (Peter told Jesus, "We have left all, and have followed thee." To which Jesus replied that all such people will receive many times more in this world and in that which is to come - Mark 16:28-30). He will direct you to cut out all tobacco products. Not only will this instantly put dollars in your pocket, your health will improve. God will also direct you to stop all alcohol consumption. Once again you'll add money to your account. Furthermore, you won't wreck vehicles with such frequency, so your insurance premium will go down. Your liver and other affected organs will thank you as they begin to function at a healthy level. Gambling will also go by the wayside, as will porn magazines and movies. Soon you will not only feel better about life, you'll feel like you've just received a healthy raise. Matthew 6:33 adds an additional financial benefit to living for Jesus. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things (food, drink, clothes, all needs) shall be added unto you." by pastor leroy aufenkamp The annual Pembina County Council On Aging picnic will be held on Tuesday, June 28th at the Walhalla Senior Citizen Center. Pastor Ole and Pastor Sven Ole was the Pastor of the local Norwegian Lutheran Church and Pastor Sven was the minister of the Swedish Covenant Church across the road. One day they were seen pounding a sign into the ground, which said: DA END ISS NEAR! TURN YOURSELF AROUNT NOW BEFORE IT ISS TOO LATE! A car raced past them, and the driver, apparently from the big city, leaned out his window and angrily yelled, "Leave people alone, you Skandihoovian religious nuts!" The car continued on at high speed and from around a curve down the road, they heard the screeching of tires, followed by a big crash and splash. Reverend Ole shook his head and said, "Dat's da terd one dis mornin'."
