A MESS OF POTTAGE

This portion of my column describes
the works of Libertarian philosopher and
economist Murray Rothbard (1926-1995).
In 1995 he published "Economic Thought
Before Adam Smith."
Chapter 6 is entitled ',bsolutist thought in
Italy and Franc e." Jean B o din (1530-1596) had
several followers. One was Pierre Gregoire,
who wrote "De republica" in 1578. Gregoire
claimed that the ruler was appointed by God
and ruled the temporal sphere for God. The
ruler's command was thus God's will and had
to be obeyed without question.
POETIC FRAGMENTS
Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) is known for
his novels, such as "Ivanhoe," but he also
wrote Romantic poetry Here is a portion of
his poem "Lochinvar":
"One touch to her hand and one word
in her ear,
When they reached the hall-door, and
the charger stood near;
So light to the coupe the fair lady he
swung,
So light to the saddle before her he
sprung!
'She is won! we are gone, over bank,
bush, and scaur;
They'll have fleet steeds that follow,'
quoth young Lochinvar.'"

I had the distinct
opportunity to travel to
Milwaukee recently for our
annual lia sophia conference
'where more than 4,000
advisors and managers from
across the country gathered
to learn more about our
company and each other.
It was an incredible event,
not only were we treated to
some impressive speakers
like Clinton Kelly from the
show "What Not To Wear,"
but we were given the
chance to spend time with
unbelievable people who
work their own businesses as
lie sophia representatives.
We heard amazing stories
from advisors whose lives
have been changed because
of the opportunity they were
given to reach for their highest
dreams and accomplish
them. It was a weekend
filled with inspiration and
understanding, topped
off with good times and
laughter.
lie sophia has branched
into Canada and will soon
move into Europe. The
company was mentioned
more than three billion times
last year in the media and
we are currently the number
one direct marketing jewelry
company in the country.
Every time I speak to one
of the customer service
representatives, I tell them
how proud I am to work
for a company that treats
their customers, hostesses
and advisors so well. This
business has changed my
life in so many positive ways
and I couldn't be more proud
to be a unit manager for lie
sophia.
I started my business
shortly after we closed our
restaurant a few years ago.
It was a difficult time for
my husband and I, not only
because of the deep debt
we found ourselves in but
because we had to let go of
something we worked so
hard to create. My lie sophia
business was such a blessing
during that time because
with every party I went to and
every hostess who booked a
party, I found inspiration and
hope.
The struggles continued
with illness in our family,
my big brother and father-
in-law's cancer diagnosis
and my Auntie Erma's
sudden infection which led
her to spend several days
in the ICU. She is currently
staying at Altru Hospital's
Rehabilitation center. Having
them allon the mend is such
a blessing, miracles from
heaven thanks to the many
prayers sent up for them.
Through it all, my lia
sophia family was there for
me, ready to fill me up with
encouragement and quick
to pray when prayers were
needed. Some of my dearest
friends are those I have met
through my business and I
can't thank them enough for
the love and light they bring
into my life.
In addition to the many
experiences my husband and
I have been able to encounter
because of lia sophia, like
the all expense paid trips to
Palm Springs, Cancun and
Las Vegas, we were given
something we never thought
we would have again after
our restaurant closed - the
ability to hope and dream.
For a while, all hope was lost.
Overwhelmed with more
debt than we ever thought we
could pay back, there were
times we didn't know how we
would make it another day.
I was given a new start from
my business and it has been
one of the best decisions I
ever made in my life. I am
my own boss; it is up to me
how far I want to go. We have
been able to keep up with
seven separate payments we
are making each month from
the restaurant and there is a
light at the end of the tunnel
as we are close to paying off
one of them. This would have
never been possible without
lia sophia. We never filed
for bankruptcy because we
didn't want to hurt the people
who helped us start and so
we continue to work toward
paying off our debt. I remain
steadfast in the philosophy
that dreams can come true
and one day, we will be debt
flee.
During our stay in
Milwaukee, I heard the story
of a woman who lost her
father. She went into deep
depression and was unable
to pay bills or function at
all. A twist of fate led her
to lia sophia and just when
they were about to lose their
home, everything turned
around for her. She continues
to build her business and has
found strength through the
little coincidences she is sure
her father is leading her to.
One of my dear friends
Karen who is also alia sophia
manager, began her business
because her 5-year-old son
was diagnosedwithleukemia.
She had twins at home and
with all the treatments her
son was undergoing there
was no way for her to hold a
fulltime job. She started lia
Member FDIC
sophia and was able to earn
more working part time then
she was full time at her regular
job. She had time for her
children and especially for
her son who was struggling
through intense treatments.
She is an inspiration and
the best news is her son is
in remission now and doing
well.
So many incredible stories
of people going through
the most devastating
circumstances life can offer
up and yet finding hope
because one person believed
in them. It certainly is a
testament of what a single
kind soul can do for another
despite the struggles that
exist.
Sometimes along the way,
we are given glimpses of
beauty, integrity, courage,
strength and hope. In those
moments when we don't
think we can make it through
another day, someone or
something comes along
and changes the solemn
direction of our mind's
discouragement. I truly
believe divine intervention
acts on our behalf with each
passing day. There are so
many stories of miracles
occurring simply because
someone believed.
I am grateful for the
experiences I have been
given in my lifetime and
feel blessed for the miracles
which continue to give me
strength, encouragement
and support as the days pass
into months and months into
years.
This year at conference as
we gathered into the large
stadium, I walked passed
the stands onto the main
floor where I found my spot
next to the woman who gave
me the opportunity to hope
again, Terri Horpedahl. As
they announced the winners
of the Ruby award, I stood
to make my way across the
stage. When my walk was
finished, with tears in my
eyes, I found Terri and gave
her a huge hug; after all,
she believed in me and thus
helped me believe in myself
again. My main goal now is
to help others do the same.
As you go about your daily
routines, remember you
can make a difference in
someone's life. One simple
word of encouragement, a
compassionate smile, a kind
gesture, or a persistent belief
in another human soul can
be the jewel of inspiration
to someone who never knew
the extent of the greatness
they could possibly achieve.
Keep Some Money
In Reserve
Some things happen
unexpectedly.
The
transmission goes out on your car, your air
conditioner quits working, you get laid off
from your job, or you have unexpected
medical expenses.
In times like these, it's nice to have some
money 9el aside for an emergency. We
recommend keeping three to six months
earnings in a Savings or Money Market
Account.
