Page 8 July 8th, 2010 iiiiii i Valley News & Views Girl's Softball Team On a Roll by Kerri Stegman The Drayton girls' softball team won three games in a row which very possibly moves them into second place in the eight team league. With all the make-up games being played, due to the number ofrainouts, league standings have not been determined at this time. Only Walhalla is undefeated and with only one loss the local girls are still in the hunt for the league championship. Coach Stegman says the girls are steadily improving and with their hitting starting to heat up, they will be a "force to content with". Drayton 4, Valley 2 The Drayton girls' team defeated an older, more experienced Valley on Tuesday, June 22, by a score of four to two on the local legion field. A solid defensive effort by everyone and a strong pitching performance by Morgan Hill were key factors in the victory. The girls committed only four errors and none of them were costly. Hill struck out five and walked only one for the victors. Although the girls struggled at the plate as a team, Janessa Baily lead offensively going July SI)ecia NEW! Grace Oberg pitched very well striking out six and walking only one. Karin Dahl led the team in hitting, going two for two in the ten run rule shortened five inning game. While leading by one run after three innings, Grace Oberg broke the game open with a three run scoring triple in the top of the fourth and the girls never looked back. The contest has categories for nongame and game species, as well as plants/ insects. An overall winning photograph will be chosen, with the number of place winners in each category determined by the number of qualified entries. Contest entries are limited to 5x7-inch or larger color prints, or digital files submitted on disk or via e- mail. Contestants are limited to no more than five entries.
