Valley News and Views Page 3 July 10th, 2014 Sitting high atop the Smith Tower; Kelly Roe Dickens (Tacoma, WA) & husband Tex Montana celebrated its' 100th birthday. Opened July 4th, 1914; the Smith Tower in Seattle, WA is one of the world's 1st skyscrapers. Standing at 522 ft., the 42 story building was the 4th tallest in the world. In celebration of the tower's 100th anniversary, people could ride to top of observation deck for original price of 25 cents. The polished brass elevator carries 7 to the top 35th floor & features the Chinese Room. Kelly is 1981 DHS graduate. Hope you all had a 'patriotic' 4th of July; despite the torrents of rain. The quartet road. tripped to Sioux City, IA to attend the 13th annual Awesome Biker Nights. Mode of transportation? You guessed it! Held in downtown Sioux City, motorcycles of every kind enjoy music on 3 stages, motorcycle stunt performances, poker run, bike show, & bike raffle. June 27: Angella Collen & twin sister Sondra (Wenas) Verke participated in the Run or Dye Fargo 2014. Runners are blasted with safe, eco- friendly powder dye. "It's all about living life in full color!" A huge party "Dye In the Sky" following race. Angela & Sondra are 2001 graduates of DHS. June 29: Marjorie Rasmussen celebrated her 91st birthday at home. Surprise guests were Marybeth (Rasmussen) Marciniak & grandson Wyatt (Fargo, ND). Marybeth's husband Dave is Marjorie's nephew. Also in attendance Randy& Bonnie (Rasmussen) Graves. Bonnie is Marjorie's niece. Angel food cake was served (made by Marjorie herself). July 2: Kylie Johnson; daughter of Mike Johnson Continued On Page 5 by Saralee June22 LynetteRestemayer of Cavalier came to visit Saralee Hoselton who took her to Hastings Landing for lunch in a belated birthday celebration for Lynette's birthday. The next day Saralee Hoselton visited Linda Hoselton in Grafton. That afternoon Ellen Marciniak, Ruby Dybedal of Roseau and Ruth Greene of Halma went to Grafton. Merv and Phyllis Holter spent from June 26-29 at the Lakewood Bible Camp on Devil's Lake. Richard and Gayle McConnell went to Grand Forks June 27th where they met with the Retired Business Professors for lunch at Mama Maria's in East Grand Forks. That day Mike and Judy -.Stellon took Landon Mapel and went to their lake home near Warroad. They were joined by Mike Baldock and his fianc4 Trina of Colorado Springs, and by relatives from East Grand Forks: Don Baldock, Josh Baldock and Gage Baldock. June 27th Saralee Hoselton went to Richardton to spend a week with Adam and Catie Mack and Micki Hoselton. That evening they visited Marianne Voegele. On Sunday they went to Medora and met some relatives at Badland's Pizza: Loretta Aaland of Aurora. CO, Wayne Aaland III and Alisha of rural Hillsboro, Bob and Lori Faulhaber of Dickinson, Ryan and Billie Jo Parrish and children of Midland, TX. They then attended the Medora Musical. On July 2nd Saralee visited Bob and Lori Faulhaber in Dickinson and had supper withthem andhissisterMarcy Haigh of the Twin Cities. The next day the Adam and Catie Hoselton family and Saralee Hoselton went to Lake Tschida near Glen Ulen where they spent the rest of the weekend camping. They were joined by Lisa Jackson and Rachel Jackson of St. Paul. On Sunday they returned to their respective homes. On July 2nd Richard and Gayle McConnell visited Nell and Joyce Hanson to celebrate her birthday. Ruby Dybedal spent Wednesday with Ellen Marciniak, stayed overnight and went to Rochester the next day. Merrill Stellon visited RichardandGayle McConnell July 3rd. Mike and Judy Stellon went to their Warroad lake home on the 4th. The next day Brooks Stellon, Tarri Keena and Dominic joined them for the day. Mike and Judy returned home Sunday. Merv and Phyllis Holter took in various activities at Pembina on the 4th of July. They attended the Open House at the newly restored St. John's Ukrainian Orthodox Church which had been destroyed in the flood of '97. Stephanie is a Chaplain Assistant for the United States Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command Airborne reserves unit, stationed at FT Bragg, NC. Brent and Stephanie are in front of the Iron Mike statue known as the "Airborne Trooper," memorializing all past, present and future airborne Soldiers, a monument to instill pride among current Soldiers and recall the great airbome deeds of past.
