Gardner Lindsay Jo Pollestad is the new elementary physical education and high school science (Chemistry, Earth Science, Physical Science) teacher at the Drayton Public School. She was born in Grafton, ND, to Greg and Margaret Pollestad. Her father has been on the staff of the Drayton School since 1981, and her mother is a payroll clerk at American Crystal Sugar. She has two brothers-- Jeremy, who is employed at the Drayton CHS Elevator, and Trevor, who works for Schumacher Farms. Lindsay graduated from Drayton High School on May 20, 2001. While she was a Drayton student, Lindsay was active in girls' basketball as a sophomore, junior, and senior. As a senior she was named a Co-MVP. She was on the varsity volleyball team her junior and senior years. She received a trophy her junior year for having the Most Blocks. As a seventh and eighth grader, she was on the varsity girls' golf team. In her freshman year, she played "Ms. Tettler" in the DHS Drama Department's September Harvest Specials (Please Note: October Beet Hours Will Be 4 a.m. to I a.m.) Fresh Baked Muffins 2 for $2.50 NEW 1/2 Pound Flatlander Hoagie Only $2.99 Weekly Sudoku Solution on Page 8 5 PeSZNTEO av 00,J00aD VolunteerMatch org Where volunteering begins. 6 3 9 4 2 3 9 326 32 Ounce Powerade 21 ;222 [2 678 4 17 1 4 5 85 7 Fill In the bkmnk squares in the grkt, making sum that every row, calumn and 3-by-3 box thClVdS all digftS 1 through 9. production, "Tom 'n Huck." She was on the DHS Student Council as a seventhgrader and on the yearbook staff as a junior and senior. She was crowned as the forty- ninth DHS Homecoming Queen in the fall of her senior year. Lindsay attended NDSU in Fargo, where she competed a double major in Health and in Physical Education. She graduated with a BS degree. While in college, she was employed at Community Living Services, where she worked with special needs children. Her first job after graduation was as a teacher with H ead Start in Fargo .While working, she took an online course in Transcription and obtained a job as a medical transcriptionist at Unity Medical Center in Grafton. In her off-school hours, Lindsay is kept busy by her two sons, Gage, who is eight and in the third grade, and Mason, age 3. However, she still finds time to do medical transcriptions. Currently, she has been so busy preparing for her teaching that she is not reading any books but she is anticipating reading the final three books in the "Left Behind" series of sixteen Christian novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Her all-time favorite television series is "Sex and the City," which ran for a total of ninety-four episodes on HBO from 1998 to 2004 and is now in reruns on cable TE. Her favorite actor is Denzel Washington, so it is no surprise that her favorite movie is "Man on Fire," which stars Washington as John Creasy, a former Marine and CIA operative, who is hired as a bodyguard for a rich man's nine year old daughter. Her favorite actresses are Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts. Lindsay's favorite sports teams are the Minnesota Twins and the Philadelphia Eagles, and her favorite athletes are Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and Donovan McNabb, formerly with the Eagles and Redskins, but currently with the Minnesota Vikings. If she could visit anywhere on earth, Lindsay would choose Norway, Paris, and Philadelphia, where she would attend an Eagles' game at Lincoln Financial Field. When asked why she became a teacher, Lindsay responded that she hadn't intended to go into teaching when she first went to college; she wanted to be a nurse. However, after her first year, she took a personal inventory and listed some of her likes. Two of them were kids and sports. She saw she could connect the two as a Phy. Ed. teacher, and so she moved into preparing for that profession. Welcome back to the Drayton School, Lindsay, or should I say, Ms. Pollestad. reception, and they are even more welcome this year as we honor our past queens. The football cheerleaders will be in charge of Spirit Week, which will culminate in the traditional football game (this year's opponent will be Dakota Prairie) and the halftime parade of royalty, followed by the Homecoming Dance in the gym from nine to midnight, with music provided by XL93 Along the Way Continued From Page 4 strength of our family, friends and community surrounds us that my big brother will stand from his wheelchair like the strong oak tree and will walk once again, healed and whole. It is there we will find the peace of knowing God never left us but instead held us up through all of you. We have roots stretched in the earth, growing stronger since birth and there is no illness or distance that will defeat us because our roots will always be the deepest part of each and every one of us. _ __ :,f.C..( , ............
