The Laiken and Taylor Column
Drayton Elementary News and More
Welcome back to the
Laiken and Taylor Column! I
hope you enjoyed last week's
column. Obviously you must
have, or else you wouldn't
be reading it again. Anyway,
back on topic.
Let's start with the
youngest. The Kindergarten
class is working on colors.
Not surprisingly, they all
love math. We remember
kindergarten math, counting
cheerios and chocolate chip
cookies, yum!
The first grade is doing a
program called "deskersize."
It involves moving around
your desk with various
patterns and exercises. Ms.
Johnson slipped to us that
there is a hand washing and
baseball deskersize.
The second grade class is
doing a candy contest; the
students get to guess the
number of candy in the jar
for good behavior and neat
handwriting. Their teacher,
Mrs. Grundstrom, revealed
to Laiken and Taylor (us) that
it could possibly be candy
corn.
Interview with Kasey
Stegman, third grader, about
the science experiment on
Friday, November 4, 2011.
Laiken & Taylor: "What do
you predict you are going to
do?"
Kasey: "I only know it has
something to do with heat,
so I predict we will see how
solids turn to liquids, because
we're studying matter."
L&T: "Does the class in
general like science?"
K: "Yes, most of us do."
L&T: "Why do you think
Mrs. Kraft (the third grade
teacher) kept the experiment
you are doing a secret?"
K: "Because she wanted it
to be a surprise."
L&T: "Thank you for your
time."
More about the science
experiment next week.
The fourth grade is doing
a project. It is called "Flat
Stanley." It is something we
(the sixth graders) did in
fourth grade. It is where the
fourth graders writes letters
to one fourth grade class in
each of the fifty states. Only a
couple people responded to
us when we did it, but it was
at the end of the year.
We have something
to confess. Last week
we told you who was on
the fourth through sixth
grade basketball team,
but we forgot to mention
their awesome coach! Ms.
Pollestad is coaching them,
as well as being kindergarten
through fourth grade
Physical Education teacher.
The boys had their first home
game on Tuesday, November
first, and lost 13-46 against
the Park River Aggies. They
had a jamboree on Saturday,
played two games, and lost
both. Good try boys, you'll
get 'em next time!
So this ends the
Laiken andTaylorElementary
Column, week two. Good-
bye people of Jupiter, Venus,
Mars, and Earth!
