Gardner Food Drive Come and enjoy some of the simple pleasures at Drayton's 25th Annual Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration which will be held Saturday December 1st, beginning at 9 a.m. at Johnson Memorial Hall. It's a nice day for visiting while shopping some of the local vendors, remembering loved ones with the Tree of Lights Ceremony, enjoying some good eats and having a visit with Santa. ff you don't live nearby you can still drop in for a visit online. We'll try to arrange it for you. Stop by early and sign the guestbook Pembina County Foster Homes Needed longer period of time, giving their parents time to make changes in their lives. Some of the children needing a placement may have been abused or neglected, others maybe the parents are unable to care for their children. For whatever reason, a placement is ne@ded. We need your help to keep our children within their county to attend their school, keep Children in our county need your help! All over our state, there is a shortage of foster homes and this includes our county too. Children in our community may need a home to stay in for a short amount of time until their family receives services or until another family member can be found. Sometimes children need a home for a The Fifth Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive sponsored by the DHS Student Council, the Drayton High School Chapter of the National Honor Society, and the Drayton Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society was held from November 13-16. There were 302 items donated, plus twenty dollars. This compares with 269 in 2008, 739 in 2009, 431 in 2010, and 384 last year. Of the 302 items, thirty- seven came from the Drayton staff. The elementary grades donated the following: Fourth Grade (Class of 2021) 53 First Grade 28 Sixth Grade 24 Third Grade 15 Kindergarten and Second Grade 11 Pre-school and Fifth Grade 0 The donations from the high school were: Seniors (Class of 2013) 57 Freshmen 24 Sophomores 22 Juniors 13 Seventh grade 7 Eighth grade 0 This was the fourth consecutive Thanksgiving Food Drive in which t members of the I  Class ," 2013 donated th(most items on the high school side, and the second consecutive year that the DHS Class of 2021 donated the most on the elementary side. The donations were taken to the Walsh County Food Bank on Monday, November 19. Push for a Mrs. Kraft's third graders continued theP push last week to place a hamster in the White House. The students wrote and sent letters to the President congratulating him on his re-election and encouraging him to consider bringing the rodent, which they voted on two weeks ago, to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Front Row: Edwin Swanson, Kayli Staskivige, Mackenzie Guss, Shaylee Kringstad, and Jordie Mrs. Kraft's third grade class continued last week to press for a hamster in the White House. The kids all wrote letters to the President encouraging him to consider a hamster for that post. Mrs. Kraft also included a class picture with all the students wearing Uncle Sam hats. The kids also pushed to have their picture hung in the Oval Office. Prior to this year's Praska. presidential election, the kids went through the election process, registering to vote, learning about their right to cast a private ballot and actually voting for president and a variety of other things, the most important being what animal they would like to see in the White House. The hamster won out over a number of competitors including cats, dogs, birds and turtles. The letters, which have been printed as they appeared are as follows: Dear Preseident, My name is Mackenzie! Congratulations. I didn't vote for you. But you are a good president. My mom didn't vote for you. But it's okay. What kind of pet are you going to have? Please consider a hamster. Sincerely, In order to better compete in this world of real time news reporting, the Valley News andViews has acquired its own news helicopter to better cover the beat. That pretty much puts us ahead of everyone else in the state. The chopper which is equipped with both a still and video camera system began patrolling they isles of Kelly's grocery on Monday. We'll be posting some of the videos to both the Drayton Christmas website and the Valley News and Views website as time allows. DHS Students Participate In County Honor Choir Pembina County Honor Choff was held Thursday, November 15th, 2012. Eight choff students from Drayton School participated in the event. They were: Angel Larocque, Ashley Brosius, Ashley Herseth, Kyla Staskivige, Brianna Wink, Krin Dahl, Laiken Larson and Taylor Stegman. Schools represented were Cavalier, Drayton, North Border-Pembina, North-Border-Walhalla, St. Thomas, and Valley-Edinburg. The Directors chose the music and each of them directed one selection. The day culminated with a concert performance at 6 p.m. The students enjoyed the day learning new songs and singing in a large" group.
