Valley News & Views and Page 5 December 5th 2013 SUD( KU December 4th, 1891 Drayton Echo We can't write editorials this week to fit the weather. Some of'em we have tried to put fur coats and arctics on, and others we have fitted out with linen dusters and palm- leaf fans - even then we failed to do the times justice. The latter part of last week it was 30 below zero; the fore part of the week, warm spring weather; then a howling blizzard, wet with the dews of Manitoba, swooped down upon us yesterday morning, filling our hearts with consternatin and banking up our front doors to the very knobs. We now rest with pen in hand waiting for the next "surprise." The Drayton Ice Company has commenced operations for the season, and will cut and deliver about town and ship abroad large quantities of fine clean ice, right from the Red river. Lew Patmore and Chas. Hall are the controlling stock holders in the company, and will promptly fill all orders for ice. Christmas is coming, remember the two double pp's - poor preachers and poor printers - when you start out to pay your debts, or invest Santa Claus for his missionary journey. Yes, Drayton is to have a skating rink this winter as of yore, and it will be a large- sized one too. Messrs. Robert Trotter and Nelson Chapman are the copartners in the new concern and they propose to look well after the enjoyment and comfort of all patrons of the rink. The size of the structure will be 48 x 150 feet, and will be fitted with ample reception rooms and all modern conveniences. The building has already been commenced, at the foot of Mmeron street, on Red river. December 2nd, 1921 Drayton Echo Washington Senator W.E. At the opera house Saturday, Dec. 3rd a concert will be held the like of which has not before taken place in our city. The principal entertainment will be furnished by Thorstein Skarning, considered at present the world's leading virtuoso on the accordion, an instrument that is very popular in scandinavian countries, as it is also in Italy. He has participated victoriously in various contests of skill on the accordion, his last victory being over an Italian player in Chicago, eleven years ago. He then won a gold medal and considerable money- prize. A number from this city attended the dance at Red River last Friday evening and report a fine time.
